Attorney and Adoptive Parent, Linda Barnby, established her law firm to facilitate
adoptions and other family matters in 1990 after adopting her first child.
THE ROAD TO ADOPTING THROUGH THE LAW OFFICE OF LINDA J. BARNBY, P.A.:
1. Initial Consultation
Attorney Linda Barnby reviews domestic, international and special needs adoptions.
An overview of the legislative process and a legislative update on adoption issues are included. The initial consultation
will allow you to get to know Linda and her heart for adoption as well as for her to understand your needs and the adoption
plan that you are seeking. The initial consultation lasts approximately two hours.
2. Application
To allow us to get to know you, we will ask you to complete an application
including background and biographical information, and support documentation.
3. Consultation, Screening, Education
After your application is processed, you will be contacted for a another
office meeting with us. You will then attend adoptive parenting classes to learn about the legal and emotional issues of adoption.
These classes are conducted in our office.
4. Home Study
A
home study of a family is required prior to the placement of a child. This process includes background checks, medical and
financial verification, and references. We will arrange for a social worker to visit you in your home prior to recommending
adoption placement. After placement, two more visits will occur prior to finalization of the adoption in court.
5. Matching Process for a Newborn
For an adoption of a newborn
infant, you will be provided with specific information about a young woman who is considering adoption. If you decide to proceed,
she will be presented with information about you. A match is made when each of you decides to go forward with an adoption
plan together. You may meet and get to know each other while awaiting the birth of the child. Our caring staff assists you
in this stage of your journey.
